Large Chinese Shanxi Style Black Glazed Stoneware Storage Jar - This large stoneware vessel is attributed to the Shanxi province of China, featuring a form and glaze traditionally used for the storage of vinegar, oil, or grains. The vessel is of tapered cylindrical form with a broad, flat rim. The exterior is finished in a high-gloss, dark brownish-black glaze with mottled highlights and visible glaze runs near the shoulder. The interior and the underside of the rim are unglazed, revealing a buff-colored clay body. The interior surface shows horizontal throwing lines and mineral residue from use. No maker marks, factory stamps, or country-of-origin marks are discernible on the piece. A small white adhesive inventory label on the rim is printed with the characters 0127.
