Beresford and Hicks Jacobean Revival Carved Oak Court Cupboard - This Jacobean Revival court cupboard is manufactured by Beresford and Hicks of London, as identified by the manufacturer label affixed to the upper left corner of the back panel. Constructed of oak with a medium-dark stained finish, the piece features a traditional two-tier design. The upper section consists of a prominent overhanging cornice with a deeply carved foliate scroll frieze, supported by two large, bulbous cup and cover turned and carved columns. The central section is recessed and contains a single cupboard door with a relief-carved panel, flanked by two fixed recessed panels. The lower section features a flat wooden top surface above a divided front. The left side contains a vertical bank of four drawers, each decorated with carved lunette patterns and fitted with turned wooden knob pulls. The right side features two stacked cupboard doors, each decorated with high-relief carvings including foliate motifs and geometric guilloche patterns. The unit is fitted with exposed metal butterfly hinges and wooden turn-latches. The reverse of the piece is constructed from horizontal wooden planks.
