Renaissance Revival Carved Walnut Sideboard with Mirrored Backboard, Late 19th Century - A monumental Renaissance Revival style sideboard constructed in two main sections. The upper backboard features a large, rectangular beveled mirror framed by a shaped lower rail and topped with a heavy, multi-tiered molded cornice. The mirror is flanked by two large, turned and carved columns featuring foliate acanthus leaf bulbs and fluted shafts. The base unit is divided into three vertical sections. The central section contains two drawers over a pair of cabinet doors. Flanking the center are two side sections, each featuring a single drawer over a large cabinet door. The cabinet doors are decorated with high-relief carvings; the outer doors depict Green Man masks surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves and floral motifs, while the central doors feature matching foliate scrollwork. The piece is fitted with ornate, cast brass-toned hardware including decorative bail pulls on the drawers and matching escutcheons on the cabinet doors, all featuring classical scroll and leaf patterns.
