Portugal D. João III (1521-1557) Ceitil Lisbon AE F. Magro presented this type of ceitis in his 1986 work on Ceitis, with reference to 4.5.8 and being a SINGLE example belonging to the Sr. Joaquim Cunha collection. Later in the Alberto Gomes Catalogs this type appears with the same design but now as ”VERY RARE”. This examples proves without any doubt that the question set out in the note to the Book of F. Magro would be at least partially correct. Something that was forgotten in its type in the Alberto Gomes catalogue. The image of this example easily shows that ”behind” the normal design of this ceitis appears a shield with 5 shields just like the one seen on the reverse of this ceitis. Unlike F. Magro in 1986, today we have at least 2 examples and it is clear that it is not a double strike but rather a correction of a die, which originally had the purpose of a reverse die and which was altered to an obverse die by the opener of the die.
