Ernesto Soares e C. Ferreira Lima - Dicionário de Iconografia Portuguesa 3 Vols - Ernesto Soares e C. Ferreira Lima, 1947-1950. Published between 1947 and 1950 in Lisbon, edited by the Institute for Higher Culture. A monumental work by Ernesto Soares and Henrique de Campos Ferreira Lima, constituting one of the most important and indispensable reference sources for the iconographic and portrait study in Portugal. The edition is profusely illustrated with hundreds of reproductions of engravings scattered throughout the text. It is presented complete in its main body in 3 volumes (I: A-D; II: E-M; III: N-Z), with the usual absence of the two subsequent supplementary volumes. Beautiful and solid period binding in half-leather (sheepskin) with corners, spines with ribs ornamented with elegant floral designs and gilded titles, corner seals, trimmed only at the top, and retaining the original paperback covers in excellent condition. This copy boasts an exceptional bibliographic pedigree: it bears the printed ex-libris and its respective dry embossed mark (blind stamp) of the legendary J. G. Mazziotti Salema Garção Bookstore, and also a handwritten note of provenance from Auction No. 41 of Soares & Mendonça (Porto, Lot No. 2679, dated November 1980).
