Daniel Pires - Wenceslau de Moraes: Fotobiografia - Daniel Pires, 1997. Published in 1997 in Lisbon/Macau, in a prestigious co-edition by the Fundação Oriente and Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda. Written by the renowned researcher Daniel Pires, this monumental publication constitutes the definitive photobiography of the writer, naval officer, and diplomat Wenceslau de Sousa Moraes (1854-1929). The work presents a profound illustrated biographical chronology that meticulously follows Moraes's life from his birth in Lisbon (1854) to his isolation and death in Tokushima, Japan. It is profusely enriched in the text and separately with extraordinary period reproductions of family portraits (such as his parents, José de Sousa Moraes and Maria Amália), intimate manuscripts, autograph letters, illustrated postcards, and covers of rare first editions. This copy is in excellent condition, presented in its original black softcover with Moraes' portrait on the front cover, bearing an interesting dated handwritten ownership signature (”Valdemar Cordeiro, Porto, April 1998”). The interior and beautiful photographic prints are entirely clean and sound.
