Louis Veuillot - Jesu-Christo, 1 Edição - Louis Veuillot, 1880. Published in Paris by the renowned and historic printing house Firmin-Didot et C.ie., this is the monumental first edition in Portuguese of this extraordinary work of iconography, theology, and Christian history by Louis Veuillot, followed by an analytical essay on Christian art by E. Cartier. The Portuguese translation was exquisitely executed by the celebrated Viscount of Castilho. This edition, of the highest graphic and editorial luxury, is profusely illustrated with 180 fine woodcuts by Huyot and enriched with 16 magnificent and rare color chromolithographs printed separately with impressive reliefs and gold finishes. The copy features a sumptuous original publisher's binding in high-quality red percaline, richly decorated on the covers and spine with 19th-century designs, floral motifs, and gold and black engravings (highlighting geometric borders and the Latin Cross), also boasting entirely gilded edges. Remarkable heraldic and bibliographical pedigree: it boasts the printed heraldic ex-libris of the J. G. Mazziotti Salema Garção Bookstore pasted on the back cover above the marbled endpapers, the respective dry embossed mark (blind stamp) applied to the top of the frontispiece, and a handwritten note in pencil indicating provenance from the mythical Soares & Mendonça Auction (Porto, Lot No. 2673). The text block and magnificent polychrome prints are in exceptional condition and remarkably fresh.
