Published between 1892 and 1893 by the Porto-based publisher José Marques Loureiro, this 1st Edition of the treatise *O Jardim: Manual do Jardineiro-Amador* (The Garden: Amateur Gardener's Manual), by Joaquim Casimiro Barbosa, presents itself as a comprehensive study on horticulture, structured in three large octavo volumes, with paginations of 11 + 516, 544 and 610 pages, respectively. The work stands out for its technical rigor, being profusely illustrated throughout the text with numerous scientific drawings detailing the flora and cultivation practices, and is presented in excellent condition, with publisher's bindings in shades of green, decorated with gilt tooling on the spine, while maintaining the text block firm and intact. As a note of provenance of high collectible interest, the set includes an original invoice from the historic auction house Soares & Mendonça, dated November 1961, and features on the flyleaf a dedicated handwritten annotation of the same date, attesting to the bibliographic value of this fundamental piece of 19th-century Portuguese agronomic literature.
