Conde Johan Thuresson Oxenstierna - Pensées de Monsieur le comte D'Oxenstirn sur divers sujets, avec les Réflexions Morales - Conde Johan Thuresson Oxenstierna, 1774. Published in 1774 in Paris by J.P. Costard (Rue Saint-Jean-de-Beauvais), this revised, corrected and enlarged ”Nouvelle Édition” brings together, in a single volume, the two tomes that make up the celebrated work of maxims and moral essays by the Count of Oxenstierna (Johan Thuresson Oxenstierna). With a format of 17 cm and a pagination of 308, (6), 266 pages, the text addresses philosophical reflections and practical considerations on the conduct of life, human passions, the vicissitudes of fortune, old age, religion, ambition and politics. The copy is bound in an elegant full leather binding of the period, with the spine decorated with rich floral ironwork and gilt fillets on the boxes, as well as a red leather label with the title engraved in gold and page edges painted in red. The overall state of preservation is very good, both inside and out, with the text block firm and the edges well preserved, showing the natural and slight patina of time that attests to its antiquity. An 18th-century piece of great interest to bibliophiles and collectors of European moralistic and philosophical literature.
