Ramalho Ortigão - Arte Portuguesa: Tomo I, 2ª Edição - Ramalho Ortigão, 1943. Published in 1943 in Lisbon by Livraria Clássica Editora (of A. M. Teixeira & C.ª), this volume corresponds to the first Tome of the acclaimed work Arte Portuguesa by the master of the Generation of 70, Ramalho Ortigão. Being the esteemed revised second edition of this classic of national aesthetic criticism, the book has 297 pages. [6] The copy is bound in a beautiful luxury blue half-leather binding, meticulously executed by the prestigious Persil workshop - Porto, featuring marbled paper corners and large triangles on the covers. The spine is richly decorated with raised bands, geometric-floral rosettes and gold-embossed fillets, bearing the signature of the aforementioned workshop at the base. One aspect of exceptional bibliophilic interest lies in the fact that the bookbinder preserved and embedded inside the original paperback covers (front cover, back cover and respective commercial spine). The overall state of preservation is superb, with the text block and margins very clean, containing on the frontispiece an ownership signature dated 1955. A remarkable piece for collectors of artistic essays and carefully crafted 20th-century editions.
