Post card of Divrei Torah by the Rogatchover, Dvinsk, 1935. R. Yosef Rosen renowned as the Rogatchover Gaon (1858-1936), was born in Rogatchov and learned in the Slutzk Yeshiva under the Bais HaLevi together with R. Chaim Soloveitchik who was five years his senior. He subsequently studied under R. Yehoshua Leib Diskin in Shklov. In 1889, he became Rav of the Chassidic community in Dvinsk where he served for nearly fifty years alongside R. Meir Simcha HaKohen who was the Rav of the Misnagdim there. He was a Talmudic genius, famous for both his lightning grasp and prodigious memory coupled with tremendous diligence. Author of Tzofnas Paneiach. Written and signed by the Rogatchover Gaon!
