Letter written and signed by Cantor Zevulun (Zavel) Kwartin, Italy 1926. The noted Cantor Zevulun Kwartin (1874-1952) was the greatest Jewish cantor of the 20th century (alongside Yossele Rosenblatt and Mordechai Hershman). Zanwel Kwartin is considered by many to be one of the greatest Chazzanim of all time, even gaining the nickname ”Prince of the Omud”, since no one could compare to him while he was at the bimah. Prior to moving to the U. S., Kwartin officiated in Vienna, St. Petersburg, and Budapest. His recordings were widely sought after and in 1919 after a successful US concert tour, he took up residence at Temple Emanuel in Brooklyn. While in Brooklyn both his reputation and the number of his phonograph recordings grew. He immigrated to Israel in 1926, returning to the USA eleven years later to officiate at a synagogue in New Jersey. Kwartin's compositions combine the traditional mood of the prayers with beautiful melodies. Post card. Size : 9 x 14 cm Condition: Fine condition, folding marks.
