Extremely rare Classic: Chavos Daas, Lemberg 1799, First Edition. Chavos Daas, chiddushim on Yoreh De’ah, from Raban Shel Yisroel, Rabbeinu Yaakov Lorberbaum of Lissa, zy”a. Printed in Lemberg 1799 – First Edition. Yesod HaHora’ah – The Author’s First Sefer. Chavos Daas was the first and most foundational sefer of Rabbeinu Yaakov Lorberbaum, to the extent that he is commonly referred to as the Baal HaChavos Daas. It is well known that in the ksav hachtarah (letter of appointment) upon his acceptance as Rav of Lissa, his actual name was not mentioned—rather, the kehilla accepted upon themselves ”the author of Chavos Daas.” This sefer serves as a fundamental work on Yoreh De’ah in general and Hilchos Taharah in particular and has remained an indispensable staple on the desks of the greatest poskim in these weighty halachic matters. Over the years, various commentaries have been written on it, including the hagahos of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, and it is referenced thousands of times in the seforim of the poskim. A rare and sought-after sefer! The author published his book anonymously. In the introduction the author mentions that he has approbations and explains why he did not print them. The author was still young, and due to the depth and sharpness of the work people thought that it had been written by a great Rabbi. The book has since had many editions, and today is printed with the Shulchan Aruch. Stefansky Classics no. 183 Size : 34.5 cm Pages: [2] 57, 21 [1[.
