Post Holocaust Talmud. First printing, Nedarim, Munich 1946. Tractate Nedarim, published by the Va’ad Agudas HaRabbonim in the American zone of Germany with the assistance of Va’ad Hatzalah. Illustrated title page with illustrations of the extermination camps “The labor barrack where we dwelled, covertly studied and prayed”. In the introduction, the publisher writes about the “confiscation the books from ‘The People of the Book’” by the “evil men” who destroyed European Jewry and attempted to erase all Hebrew books. All Jewish books were taken to be processed or for some other lowly purpose…and therefore after liberation, the longing and thirst for books is great”. Originally only Tractates Kiddushin and Nedarim were printed, eventually in 1948 a complete set of Talmud was printed in Munich, featuring other illustrations than those in this original edition.
