Reservist figure Guard Jäger Battalion, Sy & Wagner Berlin, probably 800 silver, German Empire - Reservist's figure in the form of a standing soldier in uniform with rifle, shoulder strap, cartridge pouch and shako, marked on the lower edge of the figure plate ”SY. WAGNER BERLIN 800”. Hallmark and surface test indicate probably 800 silver. The figure stands on a round profiled column base with a front oval dedication cartouche engraved with the inscription ”Zum Andenken an das Offizier-Corps des Garde-Jaeger-Bataillons” (In memory of the officer corps of the Guard Jäger Battalion), below a round base foot and a black marble slab as the ground plate. The Berlin firm Sy & Wagner emerged in 1859 from the silverware manufactory of the Prussian court goldsmith Georg Hossauer and was active in the German Empire as a court goldsmith, producing among other things silverware, Iron Crosses and royal orders. The Garde-Jäger-Bataillon was an elite unit of the Prussian Army garrisoned in Potsdam. Figural reservist's and officer's gifts with a standing soldier figure on a column base and engraved dedication cartouche were a firm element of military farewell and commemorative culture between the foundation of the German Empire and the First World War. WAGNER BERLIN 800”. Punze und Oberflächenprüfung sprechen für wohl 800er Silber. Die Figur steht auf einem runden, profilierten Säulensockel mit vorderer ovaler Widmungskartusche, eingraviert mit der Inschrift „Zum Andenken an das Offizier-Corps des Garde-Jaeger-Bataillons”, darunter ein runder Sockelfuß und eine schwarze Marmorplatte als Bodenplatte. Die Berliner Firma Sy & Wagner ging 1859 aus der Silberwarenfabrik des preußischen Hofgoldschmieds Georg Hossauer hervor und war im Kaiserreich als Hofgoldschmied tätig; sie fertigte unter anderem Silberarbeiten, Eiserne Kreuze und königliche Ordenszeichen. Das Garde-Jäger-Bataillon war ein Eliteverband der Preußischen Armee mit Garnison in Potsdam. Figürliche Reservisten- und Offiziersgeschenke mit stehender Soldatenfigur auf Säulensockel und gravierter Widmungskartusche waren zwischen Reichsgründung und Erstem Weltkrieg ein fester Bestandteil der militärischen Abschieds- und Erinnerungskultur.
