Saxon Convention Thaler 1793, Friedrich August III, Elector of Saxony, Dresden Mint - Silver. Convention thaler of the Electorate of Saxony, Albertine line. Obverse with bust of Friedrich August III facing right, legend ”FRID.AUGUST.D.G.DVX SAX.ELECTOR”. Reverse with crowned Saxon electoral coat of arms, legend ”X EINE FEINE MARCK · 1793 ·”, below the mint master's mark ”I.E.C.” of the Dresden Mint. The coin was apparently once mounted and fitted with a suspension loop, the coin has been cleaned, dark spots on the obverse. D. 40 mm, Wt. 27.9 g. The inscription ”X EINE FEINE MARCK” indicates that ten thalers were struck from one fine mark of silver, in accordance with the Convention standard of 1753. Friedrich August III (1750–1827) ruled as Elector of Saxony from 1763. In 1806 he became the first King of Saxony as Friedrich August I, earning the epithet ”the Just”. Under his rule, the textile manufactories and the cultural life of Dresden and Leipzig flourished. The mint master's mark I.E.C. denotes the mint master of the Dresden Mint. Avers das Brustbild Friedrich Augusts III. nach rechts, Umschrift „FRID.AUGUST.D.G.DVX SAX.ELECTOR“. Revers das gekrönte kursächsische Wappen mit Kurhut, Umschrift „X EINE FEINE MARCK · 1793 ·“, darunter das Münzmeisterzeichen „I.E.C.“ der Dresdner Münze. Münze war wohl einmal gefasst und gehänkelt, Münze ist geputzt, dunkle Flecken auf dem Avers. D. 40 mm, G. 27,9 g. Die Bezeichnung „X EINE FEINE MARCK“ gibt an, dass zehn Taler aus einer feinen Mark Silber geprägt wurden, entsprechend dem Konventionsfuß von 1753. Friedrich August III. (1750–1827) regierte als Kurfürst von Sachsen ab 1763. Im Jahr 1806 wurde er als Friedrich August I. erster König von Sachsen und erhielt den Beinamen „der Gerechte“. Unter seiner Regierung erlebten die Textilmanufakturen und das Kunstleben in Dresden und Leipzig eine Blütezeit. Das Münzmeisterzeichen I.E.C. steht für den Münzmeister der Dresdner Münze.
