Alexey Gennadyevich Filatov (born 1968, Kemerovo Region) is a Russian artist and a member of the Board of the Primorye Regional Branch of the Union of Artists of Russia in Vladivostok. He graduated from the Kemerovo Art College in 1986, the Vladivostok Art College in 1991, and the Far Eastern Academy of Arts in 1994. Between 2003 and 2004, he lived and worked in St Petersburg. He currently lives and works in Vladivostok. Filatov is an active participant in municipal, regional, and national exhibitions, as well as international exhibition projects. He has held a number of solo exhibitions in Vladivostok, Arsenyev, and Artem. His works are represented in the collection of the ARTETAGE Museum of Contemporary Art in Vladivostok and in private collections in Russia and abroad. An artist, former Orthodox priest, nonconformist, and provocateur, Filatov occupies a distinctive place within contemporary Russian art. Working primarily in acrylic and employing the language of contemporary painting, he creates works of a deeply philosophical character. For the artist, painting serves as a means of exploring humanity’s spiritual quest and its relationship with the surrounding world. His works reflect an ongoing dialogue between thought and emotion, addressing themes of self-knowledge, existential reflection, inner experience, and the search for meaning. Technical mastery remains central to Filatov’s practice. He places particular importance on professional craftsmanship, compositional structure, colour relationships, and the plasticity of form. These formal qualities support the conceptual depth of his paintings, allowing philosophical ideas to be expressed through a compelling visual language.
