Mikhail Vitalyevich Chuvakin (born 1990, Bolshoy Kamen, Primorsky Krai) is a Russian artist and curator based in Vladivostok. He graduated from the Faculty of Psychology at the Far Eastern State University in Vladivostok. From 2012 to 2019, he founded and directed OTETZ, an independent screen-printing workshop that became an important platform for contemporary graphic art and experimental printmaking in the Russian Far East. Since 2020, he has worked as an exhibition technician and decorative artist at the V. K. Arsenyev Museum of the History of the Far East in Vladivostok. Chuvakin’s artistic practice is rooted in contemporary print culture and explores the intersection of image, materiality, and symbolic meaning. Through printmaking and mixed-media works, he develops a distinctive visual language that draws upon personal mythology, cultural memory, and the aesthetics of contemporary graphic art. In 2020, the Center for Contemporary Art ARTETAGE (Vladivostok) presented his solo exhibition Fun Is Over. In 2021 and 2022, he was both curator and participating artist of the graphic art exhibition Fun Is Over 2.0 in Vladivostok and the exhibition Atavistic at ARKA Gallery. In 2022, he participated in the group exhibition She Was Beautiful Like a Russian Landscape at the PERMM Museum of Contemporary Art in Perm. Living and working in Vladivostok, Chuvakin is among a new generation of Far Eastern artists whose work engages with contemporary visual culture while expanding the possibilities of traditional printmaking techniques.
