Valeria Alexandrovna Voshko (born 1997, Vladivostok) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses painting, textiles, collage, and photography. She is studying the Far Eastern State Institute of Arts, specializing in easel painting, and previously studied design at the Primorsky Regional College of Arts. Voshko’s artistic practice explores everyday life through the prism of memory and its material manifestations. For the artist, the act of painting is a process of reflection, in which the canvas becomes a site for the accumulation of not only pigment but also meaning—layers that shape our perception of the world. Working with canvas, she literally constructs the history of a surface. Layers of paint are applied, partially erased, repainted, and reworked without hesitation. This freedom stems from a trust in the natural flow of thought, which is capable of shifting, returning, and ultimately becoming embedded within the painting’s texture. The subjects of her works are often stylized and symbolic, drawing upon domestic objects and elements of the surrounding environment as forms of escapism. Yet this inner territory remains in constant dialogue with the external world, which may exert pressure or, conversely, inspire observation and contemplation. These interactions converge on the canvas surface and are expressed through its complex, lived-in texture. As a result, each work becomes an object that preserves traces of time—a repository of memory, a visual narrative, and an exploration of the cycles of continual transformation and renewal. The series “Makosha” references Makosh, the Slavic goddess associated with fate, fertility, and the cyclical rhythms of life. Through layered surfaces and symbolic imagery, the artist creates a contemporary visual language that bridges personal memory, cultural archetypes, and material experience.
