Nikita Evgenyevich Grishchenko (born 2003) is a self-taught artist from Ussuriysk. Deaf since childhood, he discovered and independently mastered the technique of WPAP (Wedha’s Pop Art Portrait), a contemporary artistic style in which an image is constructed from geometric planes and rendered in vivid, contrasting colours. Unlike traditional Pop Art, WPAP portraits are typically created using vector-based graphic design methods, where the challenge lies in achieving a recognizable likeness through the use of angular lines and complex geometric forms. Grishchenko has developed his own interpretation of this technique by transforming digital aesthetics into handcrafted three-dimensional works. Working with coloured cardstock and plastic, he meticulously cuts and assembles each element by hand, creating striking layered portraits that combine graphic precision with sculptural depth. His works demonstrate remarkable technical skill, patience, and attention to detail. Currently living in Ussuriysk, Grishchenko is studying culinary arts at a vocational college. Alongside his studies, he continues to develop his artistic practice, creating expressive portraits of iconic cultural figures through a medium he mastered entirely on his own. This work, depicting Marilyn Monroe, exemplifies the artist’s ability to translate one of the most recognizable images of twentieth-century popular culture into a dynamic composition of colour, geometry, and handcrafted form.
