Ivan Vasilievich Rybachuk (1921–2008) was a Soviet and Russian painter, a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, and an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. His oeuvre—whether landscape, portrait, or genre painting—represents a distinctive synthesis of the expressive dynamism of his time and a harmonious vision of the world rooted in the classical tradition. Rybachuk was an artist of remarkable optimism and warmth, whose work is imbued with a profound love of life and humanity. Born on 25 June 1921 in the village of Zbarazh, Kazatin District, Kyiv Region, he graduated from the Blagoveshchensk Art School in 1940 and completed his studies at the Painting Department of the Vladivostok Art School in 1950. At the Vladivostok Art School, Rybachuk studied under Pyotr Evstafiev, a pupil of Ilya Repin, thus becoming a direct heir to the Repin artistic tradition. Drafted into the Soviet Navy in 1940, he served from 1943 to 1947 as head of the naval artists’ studio of the 1st Red Banner Torpedo Boat Brigade. From 1947, he worked as Director of the House of Folk Art in Vladivostok. Between 1950 and 1952, he taught technical drawing and art at Secondary School No. 1 in Vladivostok. Rybachuk participated in art exhibitions from 1950 onwards and, in 2007, was elected an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. He passed away on 20 October 2008 in Vladivostok. Works by Ivan V. Rybachuk are held in the collections of the Primorye State Art Gallery, the V. K. Arsenyev Primorye State United Museum, the Sakhalin Regional Art Museum, the Far Eastern Art Museum (Khabarovsk), the Magadan Regional Museum of Local Lore, and the Museum of the Pacific Fleet.
