Alexander Vasilievich Tkachenko (born 1931, Vladivostok) is a distinguished Russian painter, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, and Academician of the Sino-Russian Academy of Fine Arts. In 1950, he studied at the Military Artists’ Studio in Ussuriysk. Since 1967, he has been a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (from 1992, the Union of Artists of Russia). From 1977 to 1981, he served as Chairman of the Artistic Council of the Ussuriysk Art Production Workshops of the Art Fund of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). In 1999, he was awarded the title of Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation. In 2015, he was elected an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, and in 2016, he became an Academician of the Sino-Russian Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1960, Tkachenko has participated in numerous international, national, republican, regional, territorial, all-Russian, and solo exhibitions. Works by Alexander V. Tkachenko are held in the collections of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Union of Artists of Russia, and the State Museum and Exhibition Centre ROSIZO in Moscow. In Vladivostok, his works are represented in the collections of the Primorye State Art Gallery and the V. K. Arsenyev Museum of History of the Far East. Additional works are housed in the V. I. Surikov Art Museum in Krasnoyarsk, the Regional Art Gallery in Chita, the Municipal Art Gallery in Shushenskoye, and the Regional Art Museum in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. In China, his works are held by the Russian Museum in Heihe, the Tengzhun Art Museum in Harbin, and the Heilongjiang Museum of Russian Painting. On 11 June 2021, Alexander Vasilievich Tkachenko celebrates his 95th birthday, having devoted seventy years of his life to painting. Landscape has become the principal genre of the Far Eastern master's oeuvre. His works capture the distinctive beauty of the Russian Far East—including Primorsky and Khabarovsk Territories, Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands, and the Commander Islands—as well as the landscapes of Central Russia and the Moscow region. The optimism that characterizes the artist himself permeates all of his paintings. Each work by Alexander Tkachenko may be seen as a heartfelt celebration of life.
