Anatoly Yakovlevich Matyukhin (1942–2016) was a Russian painter and a distinguished follower of the traditions of Russian Realism. He was a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. Matyukhin graduated from the Vladivostok Art College, where he studied under F. N. Babanin and N. P. Zhogolev, and later continued his education at the Far Eastern State Institute of Arts and the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad, where he studied in the studio of the renowned painter Evsei Moiseenko. Since 1975, he participated regularly in municipal and regional exhibitions. A central theme of Matyukhin’s artistic practice was the historic landscape of Russia. His oeuvre is particularly noted for its depictions of ancient Russian towns, featuring churches, monasteries, and the unembellished streets of Rostov Veliky, Suzdal, and Pskov. These works reveal a deep appreciation for the spiritual and cultural heritage of Russia. Characterized by a restrained palette and a quietly narrative approach, Matyukhin’s paintings evoke the modest beauty and enduring grandeur of the Russian land.
