A High Victorian Gilt-Bronze Mounted Ebonized Wood and Marble Mantel Clock, circa 1870s. - A High Victorian gilt-bronze mounted ebonized wood and marble mantel clock, circa 1870s. The ebonized wood case, featuring a variegated reddish-brown marble plinth, is extensively adorned with gilt bronze mounts. These include a central escutcheon depicting two putti or cherubs above the dial, and a pair of draped female herm figures flanking the clock face. The case also displays applied gilt scrollwork and foliate motifs. The brass clock face features a gold-toned chapter ring with black Roman numerals and an exposed balance wheel. The reverse reveals a hinged, perforated gilt bronze sound fret, exposing the brass movement which is faintly marked '92'. An accompanying winding key, marked '9' on its surface, is included.
