Bidspirit auction | A Japanese Imari-style baluster jar

A Japanese Imari-style baluster jar and cover. This lidded ceramic or porcelain jar, consistent with a ginger or temple jar form, features traditional Japanese Imari-style decoration. The white ground is richly embellished with polychrome enamels and gilt accents, depicting scenes of figures in traditional attire, flowering trees (including pine and what appears to be plum or cherry blossoms), and elaborate floral and geometric patterns in shades of cobalt blue, iron red, peach, green, and gold. The domed lid, topped with a gilt finial, mirrors the decorative motifs of the body. No discernible text or markings are visible on the exterior. Height: 19.5 cm
