A wall-mounted aneroid barometer, crafted from carved oak in a late 19th revivalist style. The wooden case features scrolling foliage and acanthus leaf motifs. The central white dial, encased in a dark metal bezel, displays atmospheric pressure from ”27” to ”31” and temperature from ”20” to ”120” with black numbering and text. Inscriptions on the dial include weather indications ”Stormy, ” ”Rain, ” ”Change, ” ”Fair, ” ”Very Dry, ” the maker's name ”LEIGHTON & SONS, ” location ”LANCASTER, ” and the instrument type ”ANEROID BAROMETER.” Explanatory text ”FALLS FOR WET OR MORE WIND” and ”RISES FOR DRY OR LESS WIND” is also present.
