Bidspirit auction | A pair of cast bronze

A pair of cast bronze sculptures depicting Chinthe, the mythical leogryphs that traditionally serve as guardians at the entrances of Buddhist pagodas and temples in Myanmar. Each figure is rendered in a traditional seated posture on its haunches. The sculptures are characterized by highly stylized features, including open mouths with visible teeth, tiered scalloped manes, and pointed finials on the heads. The bodies are decorated with incised patterns, notably large spiral scrolls on the haunches and a stylized circular motif on the chest. The tails are held upright and terminate in a flame-like or foliate tip. Both figures exhibit a darkened, aged patina in the recessed areas of the casting. Height: 17.5 cm.
