A Type 6 miner's safety lamp manufactured by The Protector Lamp and Lighting Co. Ltd of Eccles, Manchester. The instrument is constructed with a brass fuel reservoir base and protective cage, a steel chimney, and a cylindrical glass lens. The plaque says THE PROTECTOR LAMP and LIGHTING CO LTD, TYPE 6, PRESTWICH'S PATENT, PROTECTOR, APPROVED UNDER LIGHTING SCHEDULE B, and MAKERS ECCLES MANCHESTER. The brass base is stamped with PATENT on one side and 9/343 I on the opposite side. The glass lens features a green circular transfer mark reading PYREX MADE IN ENGLAND along with etched markings including 58 1/2. The design includes a vented upper body with a domed cap and a steel hanging loop with an attached hook. Height: 22.5 cm.
