Bidspirit auction | An Ottoman or Balkan flintlock

An Ottoman or Balkan flintlock blunderbuss dating from the late 18th to the mid-19th century. The firearm features a heavy iron barrel that transitions from an octagonal breech to a rounded section, terminating in a widely flared tromblon or bell muzzle. The barrel is secured to the stock by brass pipes and a tang screw. The flintlock mechanism is of typical form for the period, featuring a curved hammer and a faceted frizzen. The lockplate shows faint traces of simple scroll engraving but lacks any legible maker's marks or signatures. The dark hardwood stock is extensively decorated with intricate brass wire scrollwork inlay across the butt, grip, and fore-end, further embellished with small brass pins. The furniture includes an ornate cast brass sideplate depicting figures and trophies of war in high relief, a decorative brass trigger guard, and brass ramrod pipes. It is complete with a steel ramrod.
