An antique Victorian dress cane featuring a sterling silver handle of mushroom form. The silver mount is decorated with an engine-turned wavy pattern and a plain, polished cap. The handle is fitted via a plain collar to a tapered ebonised wooden shaft. The silver collar is stamped with a series of British hallmarks including the maker mark JF, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter z for 1899. The shaft is finished with a bi-metal ferrule of brass and steel.
