A pair of matching lidded and footed Argyle Wedgwood Patrician USA des patent 74009 tureens. They are crafted from glazed cream-coloured earthenware, specifically using the Wedgwood Patrician blank which features a continuous band of moulded floral and foliate relief around the shoulder and the centre of the domed lids. The polychrome decoration is identified as the Argyle pattern, consisting of transfer-printed floral garlands with pink roses, blue blossoms, and green leaves. Hand-painted blue accents are applied to the masks, finials, and feet, with blue banding around the rims. The bases of both items bear printed marks in brown ink reading ARGYLE above MADE IN ENGLAND inside a decorative frame with WEDGWOOD and PATRICIAN. Below this is U.S.A. and DES PATENT 74009. Hand-painted marks in reddish-brown ink include TL 347 and TL 347 EE. Impressed into the ceramic are the letters OO over the numerals 4 and 3 respectively. One base also features a green hand-painted star-shaped mark.
