A Large Victorian majolica art pottery centrepiece manufactured by Bretby (Tooth & Co., Woodville, Derbyshire). The item is constructed in two parts, comprising a pedestal base and a separate, removable upper bowl. The underside of the upper bowl bears an impressed mark consisting of a rising sun symbol above a banner containing the name BRETBY, model number 1222D, design registration mark Rd 338766, and ENGLAND. The registration number indicates the design was registered in approximately 1899. The main pedestal base is impressed with ENGLAND and the model number 1441E.
