A traditional Japanese wagasa (oiled paper umbrella) featuring a hand-painted paper canopy supported by a bamboo frame. The exterior decoration depicts two four-clawed dragons in pursuit of a flaming pearl (chintamani) amidst stylised ruyi-shaped clouds and cresting waves. The top of the canopy is finished with a dark fabric protective cap. The sliding bamboo runner bears an incised mark of the numeral 4.
