Zera Yitzchak – Tunis, 1768 – The First Hebrew Book that was Printed in Tunis and the Only One in the 18th Century - Zera Yitzchak, novellae on the tractates of the Talmud, and at its end, novellae on the Rambam and the Re'em and Derashot. By the genius rabbi Yitzchak Lumbroso. Tunis, 1768 – single edition, printed by Yeshu'ah HaCohen Tannoudji. With approbations by the rabbis of Tunis, disciples of the rabbi the author. The genius author Rabbi Yitzchak Lumbroso , one of the greatest rabbis and Av Beit Don of Tunis, headed a yeshiva in Tunis and taught prominent sages. The Genius the Chida, in Shem Hagedolim, wrote of him ”… in his diligence and modesty and completeness of his virtues … he gave good advice and taught Torah in the praised city of Tunis …”. He died in 1752. The first book that was printed in Tunis : This book was published after its author's death and with the efforts of his friend the well-known Kadi Yeshu'ah HaCohen Tannoudji. He bought the types and printing press in Livorno, Italy and was practically the fist to establish a printer in Tunis. Interestingly, after the printing of the book ”Zera Yitzchak”, the printer shut down for more than a hundred years, until the late 19th century, when it reopened and printed many books.
