Napoleon's Sanhedrin – Paris, 1807 – Unknown - DISCOURS PRONONCE A L'ASSEMBLEE DES ISRAELITES DE L'EMPIRE FRANCAIS ET DU ROYAUME D'ITALIE, speech and suggestion of Rabbi J.S. Avigdor during the assembly of the Sanhedrin that was established by Napoleon on February 5, 1807. French, Paris, 1807. An extremely rare booklet containing the speech of Rabbi Avigdor of France before the assembly of the Jews of the French empire and the kingdom of Italy on February 5, 1807. In 1806, napoleon summoned an assembly of Jewish notables to consider a set of twelve questions examining the Jews' attitude towards the French nation. In order to give legal sanction to the answers provided by the assembly, a Grand Sanhedrin with 71 notables was convened. To the first meeting of the Sanhedrin came Jewish representatives from France, Germany and Italy. The decisions of the Sanhedrin were printed in a book of regulations in Paris in 1807. An extremely rare booklet that certainly was not printed in many copies and therefore has been unknown until now! [1] leaf. 16 pp. no binding. Very good condition. Quality leaves.
