Large Martin Grelle "In Their Own Hands" Painting
Martin Grelle (American, b. 1954). Oil on canvas painting titled "In Their Own Hands, " depicting three Native American men on horseback riding through the foothills with mountains rising in the distance, ca. 1994-95. Signed along the lower right.

Provenance: Overland Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona; Distinguished Corporate Collection, Minnesota.

Grelle began drawing and painting as a young child. While still in high school, two professional artists and members of the Cowboy Artists of America, James Boren and Melvin Warren, moved to his area and had a lasting impact on his career. Mentored by Boren, he had his first solo exhibition within a year of graduating high school in 1973. He has had around 30 solo exhibitions since including an annual show at the Overland Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona.

In 1995 he became a member of the Cowboy Artists of America, a lifelong dream of his, and has since served on their board of directors, as president, and as chairman for their 50th Anniversary Events in 2015. He also teaches an annual workshop along with Bruce Greene to teach aspiring artists. He has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career including the Prix de West Purchase Award twice, the Nona Jean Hulsey Rumsey Buyers' Choice Award twice, multiple Cowboy Artist's awards, and the Legacy Award by The Briscoe Museum in 2012.
