John Maakestad "Domke" Oil Painting 1971
(American, 1928-2012). Oil on canvas painting titled "Domke" depicting a colorful abstract composition composed of energetic shapes in firey orange and red against a yellow background, 1971. Signed and dated along the lower right; further signed, titled, and dated along the stretcher along the verso.
Exhibition: St. Olaf College, Minnesota, "1974 Centennial Show, " October 6 - 30, 1974.
Sight; height: 51 1/2 in x width: 37 1/2 in. Framed; height: 52 3/4 in x width: 39 in x depth: 2 in.
Condition: The colors are bold and deep. There are no major losses, creases, or tears. There is craquelure throughout. There is a spiral craquelure in the lower left quadrant. There are small spots of dark accretion throughout. There is soiling throughout. Stretcher bar marks are visible along the top edge and top right corner. Along the recto there is wear to the extreme edges of the canvas. There is wear to the frame. Not examined out of frame. No signs of restoration under UV light.
