Louis Safer "Yellowstone Landscape" Painting

Provenance: Collection of Rev. Richard L. Hillstrom; Collection of Frank J. Indihar, M.D.; Private Minnesota Collection.

Safer moved to Minnesota in the mid-1950s to teach at the University of Minnesota as a professor of art. He was a disciple of synchronism, a style created by his mentor Professor Stanton Macdonald-Wright, which is similar to Cubism. This style was a form of abstraction characterized by using intervals between colors in what has been described as the visual equivalent of music.

Condition: The colors are bold and bright. There is a small loss to the paint layer along the upper center. Some craquelure throughout. Light wear to the frame.
