19th-20th c. Brass French Gendarmerie Helmet
French polished brass gendarmerie helmet, possibly 19th century. With leather lining along the interior of the skull, black plume brush crest, and two epaulets. Details hammered in relief throughout the helmet including branches, leaves, and and vines along the helm; stalks of wheat, flowers, and foliage along both sides of the crest; and a stoic male face facing outward. The straps are with metal fittings in the forms of lions and scales. Etched "B. Franck & Ses Fils, Aubervilliers" along the nape of the helmet; "Marque de Fabrique" etched along the interior of both epaulets.
Height: 10 1/2 in x width: 7 1/2 in x depth: 10 in.
Condition: There are no major breaks or losses. There are a few small dents along the front right region of the helmet. Light tarnishing to the metal throughout, including minute corrosion particularly along the extreme edges. Light dust and debris gathered throughout.
