Japanese Iga Mizusashi Ceramic Jar
Japanese Ko-Iga Mizusashi or freshwater jar with a biidoro ash glaze, Edo period ca. 18th to 19th century. The stoneware clay with copper decoration throughout and feldspar chips. There is a large lacquer repair to the side. With a wooden tomobako box.
Keywords: chanoyu, tea ceremony.

(Pot) height: 6 in x diameter: 5 1/4 in. (Box) height: 8 in x width: 6 1/2 in x depth: 6 1/2 in.
Condition: There are major cracks in jar which occured during the firing process; the cracks along the bottom were filled in with glaze which leaked out and adhered to the bottom of the piece. There is a large repair along the side which has been infilled with an unknown substance. Light wear throughout the remaining areas including some crazing to the glaze. Light wear to the box.
