Chinese Pu Xiang Genealogy Portrait of Zhu Family
Chinese ancestor or genealogy portrait of a male member of the Zhu family, likely late Ming Dynasty. Ink and gold on silk. This type of portrait is known as a pu xiang, or a genealogy portrait. The sitter is rendered in the appropriate costume of their rank. The clothing as well as the sumptuous brocade chair indicates a person of both high-rank and wealth.
(Folded) height: 28 in x width: 19 in. (Unfolded) height: 28 in x width: 38 in.
Condition: There are no large tears or losses. The sheet is toned. Areas of foxing and discoloration throughout. There is some skimming to the image. There are some small chips and tears along the edges. A few creases throughout.
