Buu Hui Hung Still Life Lacquer Painting - Buu Hui Hung (Vietnamese, b. 1957). Lacquer painting on panel depicting a still life against a yellow background. Signed in the center of the work. This time-consuming lacquer painting depicts a still life of objects that are associated with rituals on the traditional wood surface, often employing chiaroscuro techniques. Hung is inspired by Vietnamese myths and legends, imbuing this painting with the feeling of solitude and of mystery as it is set in a dreamy, isolated space. The composition was decidedly kept simple, with elegant forms. Sight; height: 49 in x width: 48 in. Framed; height: 56 in x width: 55 1/2 in x depth: 2 1/2 in. Condition: The painting is slightly toned. There are no major losses. There is bowing and warping to the board. Some soiling throughout, especially along the upper third and right third of the work, where there are also signs of moisture exposure. There are a few minute scuffs or scratches along the upper left quadrant. Some wear along the extreme edges. Housed within a wooden frame. Some wear to the frame including small chips to the gilt and lacquer. Dust gathered along the recessed areas.
