Steven Sorman ”Burden of Need” Mixed Media - Steven Sorman (American, b. 1948). Lithography woodcut, linocut, masonite intaglio, and handpainting on paper titled ”Burden of Need, ” 1989. Pencil signed, titled, dated, and editioned 10/23 along the lower center. Steven Sorman is an internationally recognized Minnesota artist, best known as a painter and printmaker. He earned his BFA from the University of Minnesota. Currently, he resides and is active in Red Wing, Minnesota. His work is housed in numerous international museums that include Stedkijk Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands, The Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, New York, the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sorman won the Bush Foundation Artist's Fellowship in 1979, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Merit World Print III Award in 1980, the Rockefeller Foundation American Center Artist in Residence in Paris in 1982 and the 2nd Bhrat Bhavan International Biennial of Prints Merit Award in 1991. Unframed; height: 36 1/2 in x width: 61 1/2 in. Framed; height: 43 3/4 in x width: 69 1/4 in. Condition: There are no visible tears, losses, or restorations. The work has slipped its hinges, visible in the lot listing. There is an undulation to the sheet throughout. Framed under plexiglass on a non-acidic backing. Light wear to the frame. Not inspected out of frame.
