Warren MacKenzie Lidded Pentagonal Ceramic Box - Warren MacKenzie (American, 1924-2018). Studio ceramic lidded pentagonal box. Stoneware with a buttermilk glaze. Not marked. Warren MacKenzie was a renowned Minnesota studio potter. A student of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, he is credited with bringing the functional Mingei tradition to the United States, and spreading it through his own art and mentorship of students during his long tenure at the University of Minnesota. Height: 7 in x width: 7 1/2 in x depth: 7 1/2 in. Condition: There are no major cracks, losses, or restorations. Extremely faint scratch along one side of the lid and another along the side of the bowl, possibly original to the artistic production. There are two small areas along the underside with adhesive residue. Light wear along the footrim.
