Mexican Folk Art Bugbear Carved Coconut Shell
Mexican folk art carved coconut shell bugbear bank, inscribed "Un recuerdo un ulua, ano de 1890-1 (A memento of ulua, 19th c). From San Juan de Ulua, Veracuz. Featuring mother-of-pearl inlaid eyes; the money box decorated with Phrygian cap, two dogs, a man, three women, an eagle, snake, and cactus.
(Without stand) diameter: 4 1/2 in.
Condition: There are no major signs of restoration. There is a thin crack extending approximately 1 1/2 in from the left corner of the figure's mouth. Small chips along high points, particularly the nose.
