Tsoona Stella Wooden Nax'Nok PNW Mask 1990 - Tsoona Stella (Haida, 1937-2014). Carved wooden mask titled ”Portrait Nax'Nok” depicting a solemn expression, 1990. With painted features and applied fur along the head as well as along the upper lip. Inscribed title, signature, and date along the verso. The Haida Nation are an indigenous Native American group that live near the Pacific Northwest coast of British Columbia, Canada. In Haida culture, ”Nax'Nok” is a concept of cosmic-bestowed strength. Height: 13 in x width: 14 in x depth: 6 in. Condition: There are natural splits to the wood throughout, though none detract from the overall effect of the work. The colors are bold and bright. The fur is in good condition. No losses or repairs. Leather strap along verso is in good condition with minimal wear
