F. Vichi ”Dying Gaul” Marble Sculpture - Damaged - Ferdinando Vichi (Italian, 1875-1945). Carved verde antico marble sculpture depicting ”The Dying Gaul” after the ancient Roman original, late 19th-20th century. The original Roman sculpture, now housed in the Capitoline Museums in Rome, is a replica of a lost ancient Greek sculpture dating to 323-31 BC. Incised ”F. Vichi Firenze” along the base. Damaged. Height: 18 in x width: 27 in x depth: 12 in. Weight: 105 lbs 3 oz. Condition: There is a large repaired break along the right third of the sculpture. Along the break, there are several chips and small losses. There are several breaks to the leg. Some dust gathered along the recessed areas.
