Emmanuel Fremiet ”Pan et Oursons” Bronze - Emmanuel Fremiet (French, 1824-1910). Bronze animalier sculpture titled ”Pan et Oursons (Pan and the Bears)” depicting the titular mythological deity lying down, seemingly teasing two cubs with a honeycomb, 19th century. Cast by the foundry of F. Barbedienne. Incised ”F. Barbedienne Fondeur Paris” and ”E. Fremiet” along the base. The original plaster work that the sculpture is cast from was created in 1864. In 1867, a marble copy was acquired by the State and is now displayed at the Musée d'Orsay. Height: 7 3/4 in x width: 13 in x depth: 5 in. Weight: 14 lbs 2 oz. Condition: There are no major dents, losses, or repairs. Uneven patination and some verdigris patination throughout. Light wear to the base. Some dust/debris gathered in the recessed areas.
