Lot Essay: Karen LaMonte is best known for her life-sized sculptures that explore absence and identity through the detailed rendering of clothing. Trained at the Rhode Island School of Design, she developed a distinctive practice centered on cast glass, using garments as stand-ins for the human figure. Her work often captures the momentary flow of fabric with striking material precision, inviting a quiet meditation on beauty, memory, and the body. LaMonte has exhibited internationally and is represented in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Chazen Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Gary C.
