George II Gilt Japanned Bureau Cabinet - George II gilt Japanned bureau cabinet. Lacquered wood with double-domed crest above a pair of mirrored doors, two open shelves, fall front door revealing fitted pigeon hole shelving above a writing surface, and four long drawers. Decorated with complex figural motifs executed in gilt and polychrome pigment. Height: 82 in x width: 36 in x depth: 19 in. Condition: The desk is structurally sound and stable. The drawers and hinges move smoothly and the lock to the surface of the desk operates well. Some scuffs and scratches throughout, commensurate with age and use. Wear along the upper surface of the desk, where the mirrored cabinet rests. There are some chips and small losses to the gilt and pigment along high points. The locked cabinet housed within the interior of the desk does not open and the key appears broken. Some wear to the feet.
